Marcos M. Tarango

Marcos M. Tarango has twenty years’ in-house and AmLaw 100 law firm experience (including Baker & Hostetler LLP and Morrison & Foerster LLP), representing automotive and commercial lenders. Mr. Tarango most recently spent fourteen years at Toyota Motor Credit Corporation where as Managing Counsel he provided legal advice to senior management and managed attorneys and legal staff overseeing a $16 billion commercial loan portfolio consisting of inventory loans, real estate loans, construction loans, construction loan administration, syndicated and participated loans and distressed assets. Mr. Tarango was also divisional General Counsel at Toyota for its $2 billion equipment finance division.

Mr. Tarango’s practice focuses on structuring, negotiation and documentation of secured lending transactions, troubled debt restructuring and retail installment and vehicle and equipment lease financings. Mr. Tarango has unique experience with automobile dealership inventory defaults and workouts serving as the lead in-house attorney at Toyota in that area where he provided extensive counseling to clients on lender liability issues. Mr. Tarango assisted in the development of loan origination, special asset and risk management lending policies and procedures while at Toyota. Mr. Tarango also has extensive experience negotiating and documenting technology, consulting, license, business process outsourcing and confidentiality/non-disclosure agreements. Among his notable accomplishments, Mr. Tarango led a company-wide process realignment to shift low-cost repetitive legal operations work from the legal department into the business, which resulted in $500,000 annual cost savings to the client. He also led the roll out of new loan documents, master service agreement modular contracts and smart-tools intake forms for use by business.

Mr. Tarango is an Adjunct Professor at UCLA Law School where he co-developed the Corporate In-House Clinic, a class designed to provide students with live-client clinical work experience. Mr. Tarango also has conducted multi-day training programs to clients on lending best practices and workouts, and has presented to lawyers on a wide range of legal topics. Mr. Tarango is a 1997 graduate of UCLA School of Law and received his undergraduate degree from UCLA.
